Dear Abby: My brother-in-law won’t speak to be because I refuse to be his nanny

DEAR ABBY: My twin sister and her husband are anticipating their first youngster. I run a small enterprise with my father. Although I work exhausting, neither of them seems to see or acknowledge my efforts. They contemplate me to be “sponging” off my father. They also disapprove of my relationship with my boyfriend because we have chosen to stay single and not have kids, although we have been collectively as lengthy as they have.

Recently, they supplied to rent me as their nanny three days a week after my sister’s maternity go away is up so that they can proceed working. My sister also requested that I think it over with out consulting my boyfriend.

I advised them instantly that I could not commit to — nor do I need — such a big accountability. I said I would assist them when I could but that my life and schedule were too unpredictable to be their main means of childcare. I am uncomfortable with being their worker when our relationship is already considerably strained.

This made my sister unhappy and disillusioned and her husband indignant. He will no longer communicate to me and says he doesn’t perceive why I couldn’t do them this “favor” after all the assist with rubbish, snow removing and mechanical points he has selflessly given me (which is true). Am I loopy to think that this seems a lot to ask of me and that I have a proper to say no? Should I really feel as responsible as they are making me really feel? — NO NANNY IN NEW YORK

DEAR NO NANNY: You are not “crazy,” so don’t really feel responsible for refusing to enable your sister and brother-in-law to push you into something with which you are not comfy. That they would expect you to become their babysitter with out first discussing it with your companion (authorized or not) is somewhere between sneaky and presumptuous.

You say your relationship with your twin and her husband is “somewhat strained.” Well, it seems to be that method because you sense a lack of respect from them. That is the concern you should straighten out with her. As for her hubby, he wants to perceive that: 1. You are completely happy working with your father in the enterprise, and 2. Removing rubbish, clearing snow and dealing with mechanical points are not remotely equal to devoting three days every week to taking care of a child.

DEAR ABBY: There is a nice man around my age who works at a close by restaurant. I really need to meet him, but he doesn’t appear too thrilled when girls hit on him, and he doesn’t appear to date or have relationships at all. I heard he was just lately seen flirting with a co-worker. How should I strategy him? — LOOKING FOR A WAY IN

DEAR LOOKING: You should not strategy him. Attractive service trade staff get a lot of undesirable consideration, and you already know that this man does not welcome the amorous advances of his clients. His romantic life is none of your enterprise, so please cease poking around and transfer on.
