DEAR ABBY: Fifty-two years in the past, while in highschool, I met a younger girl. We hung out then and for two years after commencement. We did everything collectively, and at the time it appeared she was my soulmate. Then I dumped her with no rationalization except that I had met someone else. I married that someone else within a yr.
Twenty years went by, and during that time I reached out to the first girl a few occasions to want her blissful birthday and say that I hope all is nicely. After a few makes an attempt at this, I acquired a licensed letter saying I was to have no contact with her; otherwise, attorneys would become concerned. It has now been 30 years of silence between us.
For more than half a century, I never thought about needing to apologize for main that girl on when she was anticipating our relationship to lead to marriage. In your opinion, would it be proper to ship her a letter to apologize for all the years of never saying I’m sorry, I was insensitive, and I was an fool? — ANOTHER DUMB MALE
DEAR MALE: What half of “no contact” don’t you perceive? This girl desires nothing to do with you, and rightly so. You broke her coronary heart. No matter how profusely and sincerely you apologize, she is not going to forgive you. The letter you need to ship would be for your profit, not hers. Stop being egocentric, and let her depart that emotional trauma in the distant previous.
DEAR ABBY: There is an 8-foot privateness fence all around my yard, except for a small path that goes from the nook of the driveway around the aspect of the home. You can’t see the path or the yard from the avenue.
The other night, I was grilling dinner when a pair of younger girls walked proper up inside the fence. One of them launched herself as a school scholar from Europe. At first, I thought they were harm or something and wanted assist, but then they said they were promoting magazines.
I requested them to back off my property and instructed them that strangers wanted to use the entrance door to individuals’s homes. I wished to add that, at least where I dwell, it can be harmful to trespass, and they were fortunate my canine was inside.
It seems apparent to me that backyards, particularly fenced ones, are non-public, and they should have recognized higher. Then I got to questioning if that is true in every single place. Are there locations where letting yourself into a stranger’s fenced yard would be OK? (As an apart, I know they were most likely not school college students or legitimately promoting magazines — that’s an outdated one.) — PRIVATE PROPERTY
DEAR PRIVATE PROPERTY: You are appropriate on every stage. What these younger girls did was silly, impolite, unlawful and probably harmful. In Europe, just as in the U.S., a yard is sacrosanct, and strangers should never enter with out an invitation. These “students” were enjoying dumb because they got caught, and every half of their story is pure malarkey.
